This
project was initiated in the second half of 2015 and continued for about nine
months. This was a survey based research that attempted to determine the level
and determinants of job satisfaction of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. CTI research
team had to undertake FGDs, survey, filed visits and in-depth interviews as
part of this study.
This study identifies the migration pattern of RMG workers in Bangladesh. Structured questionnaire survey was used to investigate the research questions of the study. The questionnaires were administered on 1065 workers of eleven knit and woven RMG factories in Dhaka city, Gazipur, Chittagong and Narayanganj. It was revealed in the study that RRM migrated workers were mostly from Dhaka division followed by Rangpur, Barisal, Rajshahi, Chittagong, and Khulna divisions. The least number of migrant workers were from Sylhet division.
The pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh is a standout among the major industrial sectors in the country. It has expanded during the last two decades at an impressive rate. This sector has become a matter of great pride for the people of the country. It is fulfilling ninety eight percent of the demand on the local market. Bangladesh has also been exporting pharmaceutical products to a number of countries. Ensuring sustainable growth of this sector requires skilled human resources in various phases of the production process. Therefore, assessing the skill levels of employees in the pharmaceutical sector is extremely important. To further improve the competitiveness of this sector, the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the National Skills Development Council (NSDC) initiated this skills assessment project, which has been conducted by the Center for Trade and Investment (CTI), University of Dhaka.
This study has four major objectives: (i) to identify the different categories of technical occupations in the pharmaceutical sector; (ii) to determine skills required for various technical occupations; (iii) to ascertain the occupations that are hard to fill and the reasons therefor; and (iv) to make recommendations on how to improve skill levels in the pharmaceutical sector of Bangladesh. The methodology of this study is qualitative in nature. It is based on Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and In-depth interviews. The people who participated in the FGD were experienced professionals from different well known pharmaceutical companies, as well as from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. University of Dhaka. Twenty professionals including CTI, ILO and NSDC representatives were present in the FGD sessions. In-depth interviews were conducted with six different individuals from the Pharmaceutical industry. Later, five additional key-informant interviews were also conducted to validate the findings of the study.
